All, not sure if this has been posted before, but it is important. The Medical Debt Relief Act of 2009 in currently in Washington. This is the official summary from open congress:

7/30/2009--Introduced.Medical Debt Relief Act of 2009 - Amends the Fair Credit Reporting Act to prohibit a consumer reporting agency from making any report containing information related to a fully paid or settled medical debt that had been characterized as debt in collection for credit reporting purposes, which, from the date of payment or settlement, antedates the report by more than 30 calendar days.

Basically if passed, this would require paid or settled medical debts to be removed from CR and could no longer affect credit scores.


I strongly urge everyone to contact their state representatives; congressmen and senators and tell them you demand they support this important bill!

This info should be stickied. Most bills like this die before they get anywhere, so we really need everyone to scream about this.
