Hello all....I have been a member of this website for over a year now and got some great informaiton on how to handle my money situation. However, I am still struggling terribly with paying my creditors. Can anyone guide me on how to handle collection agencies, when not being able to pay them what they want. I cannot file for bankruptcy nor take out a loan. I am in over my head and feel that there is no way out. I am now getting calls from supposed law offices & collection agencies, to the point where they are calling my in-laws. I just do not have the money to pay my balances in full. I have several pay day loans and four credit cards. I lost track of how many pdls I have and who they are too (that's pretty bad). I do know that some are illegal. My credit cards total around $2K. :(

Only $2,000 in credit card debt???

The best way to deal with that is take the biggest balance and pay as much as you can every month while paying the bare minimum on the smaller amounts. If you are unable to do that, most likely your credit is messed up anyway and you have been late on payments, not a big deal.

You can also work one card at a time and try to pay each one off even if it means being late and not making a payment on a few. You can also call the original creditor and ask to settle for less than what is owed, closing out the account when the payment is made.

As for payday loans, I know nothing of them except that they are crooks.

Unrigistered Guest, I meant no offense by that. Sorry that you took it that way. I appreciate anyone's help, but I also know that these so called collectors get on here too trying to find stuff out.

I will have to go back in to my archives and see who and how much I borrowed and owe.

I haven't gotten to far with clearing them up. I feel like I am TRAPPED!!!!! The phone calls are really starting to get crazy.

There was a place that called me by the name of William G. Sokol Law Office. Has anyone heard of them. I can't find anything about them on the internet. They don't have a website, that I can see.

I know how overwhelming debt can be. To the poster who did it all in 6 months, that's great, but it took me,and alot of others longer to clear everything up. It took me a long time to get that deep in debt, and took quite a while to get out, but it was worth it.

You do need to find out who you owe,the pdl names, amount borrowed, internet, storefront, state, etc, as was mentioned. This will start you out on getting info on them and what to do with them.

As far as the cc goes, you said you were way deliquent, how long? Are the accounts with collection agencies too? If so, make sure that who holds them has the authority to collect on them.

I did without, second jobs, etc to get a little extra money. I then took that extra, chose the lowest balance card and paid a payment with the extra I saved. When that was paid off, I took the next lowest balance one and added the payment I was paying on the first one to it until it was paid, and so on. If they are still with the original creditor, sometimes you can get on a hardship program where they will drop any interest and fees from that point on,until you get it caught up or paid off. Problem is, if you miss a payment they take you off.

The reason I do the lowest balances first is because I need to see some progress or I get discouraged, so paying off a little one here and there, helped.

Good Luck, you can post in the PDL forum about your pay day loans when you get them figured out and someone will help..karen
