Collections How to help my sick mom

Hi,
Okay long story short, my mom was working with a debt consolidation company for about a year when she was diagnosed with two forms of cancer which would require immediate surgery and treatment. She called them immediatly to inform them of her situation and they said there was nothing that they could do for her and that once she stopped making the payments the accounts would all be turned back over to the original company.
So, they turned them back over to the original companies and they are harrassing my mom non stop!! She has explained her situation and that the only money she is getting right now is social security and that is bearly enough for her to live on, nevermind the amount of her hospital bills right now!!
She has told them not to call her and to call me to discuss her accounts and they say they can not do that? At this point they call her at least 20 times a day, for god's sake what is wrong with people, she is sick and elderly!!!
How can I get them to stop harrassing her??
Please help, she is so worried all the time about them and she really needs to worry about getting better instead!!

If the accounts are with a debt collector, send a cease and desi
If the accounts are with a debt collector, send a cease and desist letter stating her illness, that her income is exempt and if she doesn't have any, that she has no assets. Make it perfectly clear that due to her age and current status that she is judgment proof and any lawsuits filed would be pointless.
You could also check your state laws to see if they have any for original creditors.
