i gotten a call from a number 857-366-5945 and had to screen my calls for
collectors any i asked "whose calling" and the person hung up on me.
so i stared 69 and got the number listed above. i then went on ling to look it up with out success so i dialed the number and i think it sais
nca (national credit adjustors?) anyway nca usually collect on payday loans so my question is sinc i live in mass and mass prohibits payday loans can the ca still sue me? as far as i could tell thenumber is a landline in
westroxbury mass. when i called the number there was no greeting just to say "your call is important to us. BLAH BLAH..and then went on to say
that if you were a summons press # and on and on somewhere at the end i got nca and then i hung up. any ideas??

well, the first thing is this--you have no idea at all why they are calling, so it's hard for us to help you with any detailed info. Your best bet is to talk to them, find out why they are calling, and follow along the following options:

1--if they are calling for someone who doesnt live there, get an address so that you can send them a certified cease and desist letter. Inform them that the person they are trying to reach does not live there.

2--if they are calling for you, you should find out what they are calling for. It may be an account that you have no knowledge of, and therefore could be identity theft. That's something I would really want to know, so I could get to the bottom of it ASAP.

3--if they are calling for you about a payday loan, remember this--if you took out a payday loan, you still would owe them the amount of money you borrowed. The interest charges are another story, but you should pay back the principal amount. If you didnt take a payday loan, follow #2 above. Once they tell you the account they are calling about, it isnt enough to say "I want validation". You can say that, but you need to send them the DV request in writing. I normally say something like "OK, this call constitutes your initial communication with me. You now have the 5 days allowed by federal law to get the dunning letter to me. We'll talk again once that happens. Thanks for calling, have a nice day" and HANG UP. NEVER try to talk numbers with a debt collector over the phone unless you have all the info.
