Are debts that are over 7 years old considered obsolete? If a collection agencey keeps filing a new debt (that is just a rehash of an old one) over and over again how can I force it to be dropped from my credit report?

After seven years the debt wouldn't appear on your report. But that doesn't obsolete the debt. Similarly, expiration of the statute of limitation on the debt would only bar the collection agency from taking legal action against you in order to collect.

You may dispute with the credit bureau and ask them to probe into the matter.

I have debts that have been charged off since 1998 and this fall we started getting calls from debt collectors. On the advice of an attorney we let the calls which are nothing more than recordings go to voice mail. We have only had 4 calls that were actually people threatening us. Today I counted 15 phone calls from the same tape recorder. None of these appear on any of our credit reports. We pull ours once a year and also pay to have the credit score. We have been thinking about signing up for life lock any thoughts on this company?
