I recently received a letter from Portfolio Recovery Associates regarding time barred debt from 1994. I fired off a letter demanding validation of these debts and also a stop calling letter. This also prompted me to check my credit reports. Last year I checked all three reports and they were all clean. I tried to check all three today and was only able to get the Experian report on line. I have to write for the other 2, for some reason they will not allow me to access them online. In any event the Experian shows an old store credit card from 1988. It began reporting in May 2009, shows a 90 day passed due as of Feb. 2010 and was charged off for $91 in March 2010. I am very sure I haven't had a credit card with this particular store since some time in the early 90s.
How do I find out who placed this on my credit report? How do I get it off? This debt would be somewhere around 20 years old, way past any SOL. Right now the credit report says it won't come off until 2016.
I also found an inquiry from Chrysler Financial regarding a car loan from 2008. I know I didn't try to finance a car in 2008.
My wallet was stolen many, many years ago, every once in a while something would pop up and I dealt with it. It has been a very long time since I had any problems stemming from that.
The only thing I can come up with is somehow one of the bottom feeders reaged the store credit card debt as it is so old. What is the best way to proceed? Any help would be appreciated.

The credit report should list who is reporting the account. Send a strongly worded debt validation letter to the company listed attacking the entire account stating you have had no such card in the last 7 years. Explain that if they do not comply with your request, you will not hesitate to sue them. Send this letter certified mail. After a bit also dispute with the CRA, if they verify then they have verified inaccurate information.

If you have to, sue them.
