I plan on paying my full AMEX balance - how do I avoid a lawsuit from Zwicker?

All:
I found out yesterday that AMEX cancelled my account. I then received a voicemail from a rep at Zwicker, I assume regarding the AMEX debt.
I plan on paying the full balance, but will not be able to do so for about 2 weeks.
Here are my questions:
Will Zwicker refrain from suing me if I pay the full amount in the next few weeks?
If AMEX permits me to pay in full online (which as of today I can still do) should make payment that way or should I pay the full balance to Zwicker.
I don't want to be sued and obviously want to mitigate the damage to my credit report as much as possible. AMEX has not yet reported any deragatory information on my report.
Any answers or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
B

You should first make sure why Zwicker is contacting you, never
You should first make sure why Zwicker is contacting you, never assume anything when it comes to money. Then you should find out which party holds the right to collect. Some collection agencies represent creditors, and other times they've bought the account (and the right to collect the debt) from the original creditor.
If you pay whichever party holds the right to collect within the next two weeks you should be fine. A creditor/collection agency has to work through certain steps before they can sue you.
