I received a letter from RJM Acquisitions recently regarding a debt from 1997. I was going through a tough time then and forgot about it. Is this debt still valid? Can they report it on my credit report?

There is a statute of limitations for how long the creditor/collection agency has to take legal action against you. If you've paid it, then make them prove that you still owe them money. If you don't owe on the debt, then there's no need for a SOL and the creditor/collection agency can't report it to the credit reporting agencies.

1997?that is considered a time-barred debt.no they can't report this, and yes the SOL has long run out.send out a DV(debt validation letter).RJM is a JDB that purchases debts past SOL,and tries to make a quick buck.OVLG attorney is right on that they can attempt to collect, but the SOL makes it so if you know your onions they can't really collect.they attempt to sue.you use the SOL as your defense.
