In the past I had a credit card with Bank of Marin around 2001 it was reported delinquent in 2002 and pasted on into collection in 2004 to Midland Credit Management - First National Collection Bureau. The credit card limit was around $200 but they are now saying that I owe $1274 with all kinds of late fees. When I spoke to them they offered to let me settle for $374 which is still more then the account was originally for, and now they are saying that they need the whole $1274 because they believe there is something I'm trying to do. Is there anything I can do???

If it went deliquent in 2002, its around 7 to 8 years old, depending what state you live in the SOL may be out on it. That doesn't mean that they can't try to collect on it, but they can't sue you over it, if they try to sue you can use SOL as a defense. I should also be close to being dropped off you credit report.
