Marval & Associates are now posing as Jacobson & Associates... I received a phone call on my voice mail at work as well as my cell phone from an "Agent Nash" who informed me I needed to call him or have my criminal attorney call him immediately to make a statement ... I had a payday loan that I wasn't able to pay back then only reason I knew was for this as he needed to speak to 2 people I used as a reference ... how legal is it for a collection agency to say they are with the police dept from my county calling in from a totally different state? Is there something that can be done to make sure this doesn't happen again?

It is absolutely, positively, so very, illegal for a collection agency to say that they are some one other than themselves in any state in the US. Call your state's attorney general's division of consumer affairs and report them. Make sure you give the attorney general's office all the details you have, dates, times they called, where you were, what was said, etc.
In the mean time send them a cease and desist letter either by fax or certified mail if you have their contact information.

Hi

If you have their contact details you can call them directly and ask them to clarify the reason ,they are definitely doing an illegal job and can be sued if required ,after sending a complaint to the attorney general's office, but for the time being send the cease and desist letter as suggested!:D:D:D

Hi there!

I rec'd a call from an investigator Named "Nash", but did not talk to him directly on the phone. He called my hr department looking for me regarding a legal matter and that I need to call him back asap. I know I owe for a payday loan too, but very hesitinte to give them my cc info, because I 'm always getting calls from these people and half the time its all a scam. I tried to deal with directly with the origianl people who i told the loan out with but it was sold to another debt collector. What should i do?

I have recived calls from Jacobson and Assosicates asking for my sister. I told them that this was my phone they were calling and not hers I repeatedly asked them not to call me. They called me again and got smart and hung up, I called back told them that i would be sending a letter telling them to stop calling me the guy said they dont have to I advised him that I was doing it on my attorneys advice and if the calls continued I would sue their ass. He said "seriously you cussing me, how many times have you raped your daughter? you scum bag" This company has no professionals workng for them to talk to people like that.

[COLOR="Magenta"]I was called by Jacobson & Associates on August 24th and a voice mail was left by a Madison Walker stating that they had documentation there with a civil claim pending. Madison left a call back number for 855-571-1745 X106. I called back at and spoke with Jeff Byco who said that Madison was his secretary and stated that the debt was from a payday loan in the amount of $598.45. He said he was authorized to take a partial payment if I wanted to take care of this today and they would report the payment to my credit report. I stated that I had just recently pulled my credit report and the debt was not listed on there and I asked him to send a letter of collection within 5 days from today so that I could verify the debt. He refused and started harassing me and saying he did not have time to answer my questions and that the company would get their money one way or another. He would not let me ask him anything and would not let me speak. Said he didn't know who I thought I was but I didn't know what I was talking about and trying to intimidate me to make a payment. He also refused to give me the company mailing address and threatened to have the debt attached to me and that they would send information to my work also. He stated I should look them up online at http://www.jacobsonandassociates.biz/ . He then hung up on me. Before calling them I had looked up the company and phone number online and found that they had used threatening and intimidation that was against the FDCPA. I was only asking for some proof of what I was dealing with so I could respond accordingly. I did not want to be giving any of my information over the phone especially if this was a fraud case.
After I got off the phone with him I have already filed a complaint with the FTC and the Attorney General.
