Check cashing on overdrawn, closed account

I have an overdrawn account that was closed & referred to a collection agency. I have a payroll check from a company that uses the same bank. If I attempt to cash the check at the bank, can they hold out the amount that I owe?

By "same bank" do you mean the bank which handed over the account to the collection agency? If it is so, then the bank won't be able to do anything, or hold any amount. They have now handed over the account to a collection agency. The collection agency will now continue with all the collection process.
