I have a credit card debt that this company is trying to collect. A few weeks ago I sent them a settlement letter, they called me over the phone to say that they would accept the amount I was offering. I then told them that in order for me to send them my payment in full I would like their agreement in writing.

They "claim" they faxed an agreement letter to me (I have not received it)
They also "claim" they have mailed an agreement letter to my address (I have not received it)

I'm starting to think they are playing games, is there any reason they would not want me to have this agreement in writing? They said they record all voice convo's so that's all the proof I would need if something went wrong. Still I'm old fashioned and I'd prefer to have everything in writing.

No agreement in writing, NO payment. That why you have written proof otherwise, they or some other agency will more than likely come after you later for more money. If they are not willing to put it in writing then in no way send them money. Voice recordings can very easily be deleted or "lost". Must be in writing

Can you tell us the name of the credit company? From what you've written, I can fathom that they're not very interested to send you the written agreement. Let them first send you the settlement agreement in writing, then only you should send them payments. It's important to remember that if anything goes wrong and you've to file a case against them, the agreement letter will serve as a proof against them.
