PRS is trying to collect a very old debt from me, saying that they were hired by the bank to collect. I thought the lender had written off the account, so I called the lender and asked if I still had an account with them. With complete confidence, they told me that my account was written off and the debt sold.
Is a collection agency saying they work for the lender a common story they tell people?
Thanks

Depending on how old your debt is, if it has gone past the statute of limitations for your state, some lenders do indeed sell these debts to what is commonly referred to as "bottom feeders", who buy these accounts for pennies on the dollar and try to collect whatever debt they can, as this would represent pure profit for them.
