I have just received the most disturbing call...my ex husband of all people just called and said that he received a phone call from a debt collection company looking for me.  Said they talked very fast - so much so that he couldn't understand what they were saying. He gave them my phone numbers (thanks a lot) and I received 2 phone calls from them - cell phone and home phone.

They claim to be IGA Capital, and although the message they left was, again, spoken very fast, I got the gist of it enough to understand that they were IGA Capital, filing either papers or charges against me in (name of my county of residence) within 48 hours if I didn't call them back to discuss my options.

I did some research and it looks like this is some sort of payday lender - and a really bad one, an illegal one, at that.  From the reports I see, they have a practice of dropping $200 into your account, then pulling $60 out on odd days (not your paydays, because how could they know your paydays if they never talked to you...), and being completely un-reachable by phone or email so you can straighten the mess out.

I do not have, nor have I ever had, a loan with this company.  I have, however, had payday loans in the past with other companies, all of which have been paid off.  I haven't had a payday loan open in well over a year.  Pretty sure I would notice an extra $200  (apparently their standard amount) in my bank account, and that hasn't happened either - so I'm a little dumbfounded that they're calling me - let alone the fact that they called my ex husband.

Can anyone offer any thoughts on this?  Now I have to try and explain all this to my ex, and his wife, who hates me to begin with.  This doesn't help.  To my knowledge, FDCPA prohibits calls to family/friends to collect a debt - especially if they call and specifically say "we are trying to reach (name here) to collect a debt and we are filing charges in her county in 48 hours".  And in the messages they left me, they didn't use the standard statement required by FDCPA - "this is an attempt to collect a debt...".

*&&^$%%&^^ scum sucking bottom feeders, anyway.  :-(

This is a scam. You don't have to put up with this. What you should do is file a complaint with SAG or FTC immediately. Inform your ex-husband that this is a scam. Tell him to not get bothered with such calls.
