NAR is threatening to sue me if I don't pay my $103 doctor bill by Feb. 17th, but I don't have the money until March 4th. I told them I'd pay them March 4th but they say if I don't pay them by next Thursday, they're going to send it to the attorneys.
Who are these people and how are they allowed to stay in business!?!? It sounds like I'm going to lose everything just like this lady in the article did!!
Someone HELP ME Please!

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
Well, a lot of collection agencies use scare tactics with consumers to make money. There is no need to get scared. It appears to be North American Recovery. FDCPA laws clearly specify that the collection agencies can't sue or threaten you when collecting debts. Since they have violated FDCPA laws, you can take legal action against them. If the lady threatens you again, then politely but firmly tell her that. You should also record the conversation in a tape. Alternatively try to pay the money within 17th February. Take out a small personal loan from your family members. Since you'll get the money on 4th March, so you can pay back your family members on that date.

i personally would pay them on the 4th as they are not gonna sue you within the two weeks for 103.00.also did you get anything in the mail from them?if not then i wouldn't even pay it then.i would pay the bill where you incurred it as if you didn't receive something in writing how do you know this place really has the right to collect.as nelly stated threatening a lawsuit in that quick of a time is an FDCPA violation as you won't be sued that quickly.

okay did some looking and i have an address to send a DV(debt validation)letter.this place has a website and boy are they bottomfeeders.they come right out and state they use the threat of legal action to get money out of a person.btw unless you live in UT they are not gonna sue you.here is the address.

north american recovery
5225 wiley post way suite 410
salt lake city, ut 84116

get the DV letter out asap.send it certified mail return receipt.also i would again try to contact where the 103.00 was incurred.chances are if you do owe this they will take the 103.00 themselves.do not give this place anything until they validate.even then pay how you can.do not give them a debit or cc number over the phone.
