I received a letter today from a creditor stating that I have 30 days to respond and dispute the validity of this debt, if I don't respond, they will assume it is valid. I am located in Indiana and this debt is at least 10 years old. The letter goes to say that if I noditify the office in writing within 30 days from receiving this notice, this office will: obtain verification of the debt or obtain a copy of a judgment and mail me a copy of such judgment or verification. If I request this office in writing within 30 days after receiving this notice this office will provide me with the name and address of the original creditor. This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. What do I need to do?

Kodi: That is a VERY old debt. Send them a debt validation letter as I would be very suspicious that al this company has is a few basic lines of information on their own spreadsheet and nothing else..debt that old usually does not have any kind of validating documentation.......it is also more then likely past SOL. You should check your credit reports to make sure it is not on them.

See the link on th eright side of the screen for sample letters. Tailor the Debt Validation letter to your situation and re-write it in your won words so it doesn't scream form letter from DebtCC. What type of debt is this? IN has a 10 year SOL on written accounts but only a 6 year on open-ended. When was the last time you paid on this account?
