Hi - getting calls from T-Mobile USA (on caller ID) 954-907-0000. Asked for my husband - he has never had a T-Mobile acct so I told them so and asked if this was just a sales call. Then they said they were from First National Bank about his credit card. (He's not behind on his payments.) I never told them who I was and they told me it was about his credit card (FCPA violation?) I looked it up on a "who's calling me" site and others said they have gotten calls from same caller ID with no T-Mobile acct either. Call it back and you go to voice mail with no name. My guess - a freelance debt collector just trying to scam up some biz - anyone else have any ideas?

The best thing you can do is contact the FTC immediately, as well as the attorney general in your state. This is NOT a collection agency, it is a scammer trying to get personal information from you.

I searched the phone number you provided, and found some interesting comments from people who have gotten similar calls. Here are two of the comments I found:

"it is from a company in New jersey, they are a collection company, i accepted the call and they had the wrong person, i played along and then let em have it.... oh what fun. i think they use a technology that prevents it from being traced. anyway; it is, for sure a collection company. the name of thae company is unknown, but the man said his name is Pete Lewis, he gave me anohter number to call back. 678-495-0050, before he found out i was the wrong person!"

Note that other phone number--it is a way to contact this person! When you file complaints, inform the AG and FTC that this number was obtained by researching others who are getting the same calls from the same number. The second one:

This number showed up on my call log (not caller ID). The number on the caller ID was 800-688-7070. Anyway, the person on the other end wanted me to verify my account information with First Bank USA (if you google the 800 number, you will find that it is for a bank in Worcester MA). This person was impersonating a credit card company and started asking for a credit card number I did not have. Then they started asking for my social security #. I told them I was not interested and hung up. This is probably a new phishing scam. The 954 number will not show up on your caller ID (if you have comcast digital voice you will be able to see the 954 number). Pathetic how some people cannot get a real job and need to try and steal the identity of others."

That one tells the story, this is someone using caller ID spoofing to make you think they are calling from a legitimate number, when in fact they are impersonating that other company in order to get personal information. Its called phishing, and this is how people steal your identity and use your credit cards without permission!

REPORT THIS TO YOUR ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE RIGHT AWAY
