the judgement was $10,716.00 I thought small claims was only up to $5,000. I live in NH. Last year I fell behind the law firm that is collecting said they'd work with me ,but instead filed a contempt motion against me the lawyer did not show up. The judge had the bail lift hold me there and said that I was in contempt and was going to jail if my family did not come back within 2 hours with the 4 payments I was behind. I was held at the court house like a criminal. I filed a motion to lower payments and never received a court date, but instead the lawyer sent me a paper to sign with what he thought I could afford. I now owe $6,713.00. I can't afford to live on my own because of this. Is everything that happen to me legal?

NH has some crazy laws but I don't think they can simply hold you in contempt for simply not paying. In my opinion NH sucks big time. If I where you as soon as you get things settled move to a state like Texas where stuff like this can't happen to you. At least the law is on your side in Texas. I have a friend in NH and her Ex-boyfriend committed perjury and lied on court documents and under oath and the judge said " it's ok, he can lie if he want's to. There is no law against that". Sorry but NH laws are messed up fro all the Hippie pot smoking idiots.

Bumping this up for you hopefully someone else has an answer for you.

I heard a recording of a court case where the gas company was suing a lady for unpaid bills, she admitted she owed it, and the judge expected her to pay it right then and there. When she couldn't, the judge made her give her wedding ring to the bailiff and told her she could have it back when she paid. When she objected, he threatened to throw her in jail, so she ultimately took it off and gave it to him.

I honestly didn't think they could do that, but I guess it is up to state law and what the laws allow the judge to do. Although I'm not sure what you'd do when a judge crosses the line... maybe you could file a complaint with the chief judge of that court.

Stop you complaining and act like a responsible adult and pay your bills.
should we feel bad for you cause you live at home with mommy and spend your earned money if you have a job that is on your wants in life. You dont need to move out on your own you need to grow up be a man and take responsibility.
