I live in mn and just received 2 credit alerts. The first was on Friday saying a credit report from Unifund had been pulled on me. The second was today that Unifund had placed credit monitoring on my account. I don't understand the credit monitoring...what is the point? I have been reading that the are getting judgements in MN by robosigning documents. I don't know what to do next.

Do you have a charge off that they might have purchased?? Have you actually pulled your report? If not, you might want to look up Pete Barry, a consumer attorney in Minneapolis. (He is a member of this forum and frequently appears on the Today show) I am originally from Bloomington and we used him years ago ...he got my ex a really good settlement!!!

Unifund/National Check Bureau purchased a Citibank account that I had in college that I stopped paying in 2002 (I think). They sent numerous collection notices that I ignored...which was my second mistake (the first was not paying Citibank).

Well, sure enough I received a summons in late 2004. Yep...they sued me for about $875. They were awarded a default judgment (about $1,200 with fees and interest) because I didn't respond to the summons and I didn't show up in court (third mistake).

Fourth mistake was not paying them after they were awarded the judgment. In 2009 they wiped out my checking account. Luckily I only had about $220 in there, of which they only got $120 because BofA charged me $100 for them having to process that legal order. I called the bank to see what happened and they told me to call David Bader (the owner/attorney). That forced me to finally address the issue and make payment arrangements with them. It took me about a year and a half to pay them off...but I finally did. That public record actually just fell off my credit report earlier this year.

So, I say all of that to say this...DO NOT IGNORE THEM because they will sue you. Had I known what I know now, I would have sent a dv letter and tried to set up arrangements if it was a valid debt. But don't make the same mistakes I did and let it get too far gone.
