Hi Everyone- Well, this is what I woke up to today. 7:00am I get a call from "Kimberly" (clearly from India or somewhere else but here) wanting to speak to me. After I verified who I was this woman had the nerve to ask the most blatant questions: (1) Are you currently on parole (2) Am I a felon (3) How many times have I been to jail for this beore (4) Do you still have a job or did they fire you, etc. I couldn't beleive what I was hearing! Mind you, this is the 1st phone call I rcv'd from this company EVER. I answered on the 2nd ring, etc. Wasn't trying to dodge them at all.

She went on to say i've committed a felony, she's already called my local sheriff's department and they're on the way to my job right now to arrest me and if I have a child/children they'll be taken to foster homes because their mommy writes bad checks and isn't responsible.

Ok, now she's gone to far. They're so stupid anyways, i'm a sales rep that works out of my home in Southern California, my employer's office is in New Jersey... hello! When she said that about my son I told her she was breaking the law by her ridiculous scare tactics... big surprise, she hung up.

Few minutes later my g'friend calls me from work telling me this psycho called her asking her and telling her the exact same b.s. she told me. This particular friend is from the 'hood' if you will and basically told this woman where she can stick it.

Just for reference this it the # (904) 723-3175 they called me from. A nice man answered and transferred when I called her back for hanging up on me. She anwers all happily saying "Oh Ms. Garcia, i'm on the phone with your local D.A.'s office discussing you RIGHT NOW. He's sending a sheriff over to arrest you". Wow, i'm so important.... two sheriff's are on their way to see lil' ol' me for a lousy $200 pdl.

What frustrates me is this goes on and on and on and really does scare people. It use to scare me. I even went so far as to talk to her supervisor (supposively, betcha it was her co-worker next to her and they lied) and she said "I don't have a problem with the way she was talking to you." I said "Have a nice day, goodbye".

I received the same telephone call today. Threatening charges of internet and banking fraud. It was a male who also sounded from India though I know the telephone number was from Florida 904-236-5142. Can they really file these charges against you? I owe a three hundred dollar payday loan and they are trying to get 800 dollars from me! Everytime I ask for an itemized report of the loan and any fees that may have accurred, they ask me for my fax number, then proceed to threaten me and don't provide me the documentation. I've already filed a complaint with the Florida AG's office against Bass and Associates. Do you think this office, United Processing Legal Department, could be related to Bass and Associates? Please help.

No they are not going to file charges against you. This is total scare tactics. I do believe they are all tied in together. They are to busy making their own court apperances to go to court against you. These people have violated ever law in the book and they know it. Please just keep your sanity and dont let them get to you. Best Wishes KYSIDE38

The problem is Florida is where the phone exchange is and is not the physical location of these scum bags. It would not hurt to file with the AG but I suspect the AG probably can not do anything about this. The best option is to hang up with zero conversation every time they call until they evetually quit calling if you can not get them to settle the debt PIF.

Do call the Florida AG and give them the phone number and they will be able to help you, an no they can not
file charges against you, the best bet is to see who they are and call the FL AG..even if they are using a FL area code they are suppose to be licensed in this state..I found that out when I was going to the same problem..

from the (904) number. She stated she was investigating a "legal matter in San Bernardino (CA) county with some "case number" and I guess was trying to sound like the sheriff or something. I called the "main" number and found the name "United Processing" and I'm glad I googled it to your site. Very helpful!

I had the same kind of experience a couple of years ago, only this psycho lady from the PDL called me at work. She would not let me get a word in edgewise after I confirmed that she was, in fact, talking to me. She said I had broken the law and she needed to verify that I was at work so she could send a sheriff out. OK. She wouldn't even tell me what company she was from. I told her I was not going to have a discussion with her while I was at work and she said "why, don't your co-workers know you are a thief?" HaHa. I asked for her number to call her later and figure this out and she wouldn't give me the number. I just hung up. A couple of minutes later my boss comes and tells me she called him. He basically went up one side of her and down the other and she called him a few derogatory terms. He then hung up on her.

I work for a private college and for legal purposes, our calls are monitored. I had the IT department track the calls and got the number. CRS Collections (I think that was what it was). Of of the members of our faculty who is a retired judge called their "legal department" and laid out more legal terms and violations they have committed that they must have peed themselves. I received an apology letter from the company and that the account was considered paid in full. I also later received an apology phonecall from the original PDL company who said they had received notice of the situation and apologize for what had happened. The person on the phone was very polite and said the company does not condone those tactics.

Good lord...will they ever learn?

Don't let them rattle you...they can't do squat.

Way to go Waterbug. These people are insane. Who, in their right mind, would stick around and WAIT for the sheriff to come and arrest them for a 200-300 dollar pdl...I surely hope the sheriffs have better things to do with their time...LIKE CATCH REAL LIFE THREATENING CRIMINALS!! They take it too far when they start telling people their kids are going to go to foster care, though. What if someone actually believed that? These people have probably made plenty unsuspecting victims do things like hide their kids or go into hiding. I will be so glad when they are shut down for good.

There was one poster on here a month or so ago, she actually took her children to a relatives because she believed they were coming to arrest her and she didn't want her kids to see that and to make sure they were taken care of. She was also a mother of a newborn. Talk about pi$$ing me off! I felt so bad for her. :(

That is horrible. I can't imagine how scared a parent would be if they were not aware of their rights. I know how scared these people used to make me. Now I know that while a few CAs are ok to work with, so many are truly horrible.

Just a note...I was sorting through my files this weekend and out of sheer boredom, was looking up the names of the people who signed off on the collection letters on MySpace...wow. It truly puts a lot into perspective. Most were in their early 20s, high school diploma at best and complete thugs.

I am not surprised. They sound young, unfortunately not old enough to live enough of life and be hit with a catastrophe out of nowhere. Maybe one day they will have the misfortune to be on the receiving end of one of their terristic phone calls. I say terroristic, because that is basically what tactic some use, threatening arrest etc....causing a person to live in fear.

That is awful that someone took their children to a relatives home. Especially a newborn. I can't imagine how she was feeling!! I certainly hope that she did not send another cent to the CA and kept all of her money to help her with children's expenses. I'm not a bit surprised at the ages of the CAs. They haven't had enough time to become mature, professional people yet.

United Processing contacted me as well threatening to have me arrested, fired from my job, etc. If they keep harassing you, you can recite the debt collection regulations to them. They aren't allowed to call you at work and not allowed to call after 9:00pm. It's illegal for them to use these scare tactics and threaten to have you arrested. I recommend reminding them of this. They kept calling me at work. I told them it was illegal to do that and they stopped. One of their "supervisors" actually told me to "shut my bloody mouth". These people are vultures. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission for illegal debt collection practices.

I am REALLY at a loss for words. How is it, that these lending companies can call and threaten people with little or NO consequences? Are the laws so lenient that they have no fear? As a citizen, if I were to threaten another person, I am quite certain I would be facing jail time. Obviously fines and being sued by consumers has little or no effect on these people, or it would not be going on as often as it seems to be? Why is this happening? Some of the things I have read about the threats being made makes me think of "thuds". I do NOT understand how and why it continues, unless, the laws aren't being enforced? Or is it that the laws aren't stiff enough to prevent them from wanting to do it? Someone enlighten me?
