i have recently been getting a charge on my credit card form UNIVERSAL ACCOUNT SERVIC 888-233-2302 every month. this started about a 2 months after i signed up for a dating service called great epectations in milwaukee,wi. i dont know what this service is. is it a det collection from great expectations or is it something else?

Universal Account Service is a collection agency. I think that Great Epectations has authorized them to collect money out of your credit card, because they have your credit card number which you provided them while registering for their service. I think you should call Universal at (888) 233-2302 and get the details first.

thank you for the info. i tried to look up that number and the closest i got was a universal data service mentioned on this site with that same number, and the people mentioned that there were alot of harassing phone calls from that number, so that is why i am a little hesitant to call. i dont know if they have caller id, but if they do, i dont want to give them my number and get those kind for call.

i tried to do that, their contract said it had to be done in writing, but i was told on the phone that a call would be fine too, but then after the cancelation time passed i was told that i needed to cancel in writing, and since i am not even suppose to be billed by them till aug i figure that since i am stuck having to pay i will either give them the rest of what i owe via money order and a signed letter ( for proof that i paid everything and cancelled), or if they show on my bill and universal does too, i will pay GE off and then call universal to see what is going on. oh, and when i looked around for universal's website i couldn't find one. the closest i came was their number, and the number was on a scam list of numbers. obviously that is not a good sign, but just how bad do you think that is?

Yeah, this one is a bit strange. This DebtCC post from 2006 has the address info on it.

Despite all the complaining, NO ONE has actually sued this collector for FDCPA violations. (2 links - 1 to Universal Account Servicing, and 1 to Universal Account Service.)

There is also a payment processing center with the same name (and has dating service clients) in Czechoslovakia. There is a US company called Universal Accounting Services in Salt Lake, but since it has an explanation of outsourcing and offers the same services, it seems to be affiliated. It is also a payment processing center, and offers other accounting services, tax preparation, etc. The Czech company has been around since at least 2004. I could not find anything that mentioned whether they did their own collections or farmed it out, or offered collection services.

I did find a BBB report on a Universal Account Servicing in MO with the phone number you provided, but I found that link through one of the complaint boards. Interestingly enough, they show 53 complaints and yet an A- rating!

now i really dont want to deal with them. what do you think i should do? call them and risk constant harassment conversations/replies like what was mentioned on the other posting, or wait till aug/september whenthe actual payment charges for great expectstions should be starting ( they are suppose to start on aug 30 for about $20, but after all this i have my douts that they upheld that date or the amount since i have been getting charged almost $42 a month).

Well, if you are being ripped off, you need to file a complaint with your State Dept. of Consumer Affairs, Business Licensing bureau, the FTC, the BBB, and your State Attorney General.

Send Great Expectations a strongly worded letter outlining what you just said and ask that they correct the problem immediately or you will be forced to investigate your legal options.

Wait until you get a dunning letter in the mail, it will have the address to send your dispute to. Then send them a Cease & Desist letter.

Sounds like this is a common problem. I contacted the Attorney General's office and a credit reporting agency, along with an attorney. This is definitely a scam!! Has anyone experienced any credit repercussions in terms of reporting any delinquency or failure to pay when canceling payment authorization?

Chris, did you have any problems with this company reporting to a credit agency? I've contacted the attorney general's office in Colorado, am awaiting a reply back from an attorney, and also a consumer protection agent to phone me back. I am planning on canceling the credit card they are billing, but want to know if this is going to come back to bite me!

I have recently been scammed by a company that went by the name of "Fortune Learning Systems," aka "Ivy Capital Inc.," aka "IC Coaching," and "ICI," now check this out... I found out about the scam because the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) shut them down... yesterday, I stopped all payment on my credit card, today, I get this letter in the mail from Universal Account Servicing, LLC, phone no. 888.233.2302.
for the amount of.... Drum Roll Please.... $3,204.28!! Under the circumstances, I will be filing a complaint with their local sheriff's Department, BBB, FTC, Attorney General, and anyone else I can think of!! I would be willing to bet the farm, that they are the same people who were shut down. Otherwise, how could they get a letter to me from Kansas City, MO to central Texas in 1 day?!?

I generally don't reply to posts but people need to be aware my story is the same as with Angie and was even considering bankruptcy due to financial hardship. Today I decided to google their number wow what an eye opener. they are apparently involved in a number of scams. I canceled my cards I have access to a law firm and tomorrow I go on the offensive. Do not give them one red cent. Unfortunately for me I lost more money than Angie but it stops now I am pissed. Tomorrow I file a complaint with the sherriff and take it from there.
