My boyfriend had received harassing phone calls from a James Johnson on his cell and they people that he spoke with also did have thick indian accents calling from the phone numbers that many of you have provided. The funny thing is my boyfriend and I both work for a major shoe company that deals with fraud everyday! I specifically work for the fraud dept for that company.
Just literally hours ago I saw my bf and he told me that this james person was a scam and after months of delay (to pay the accused $870 and odd cents) and piecing unprofessional work ethics from these people and numerous wrong/not working phone#'s we kinda started to suspect that this was fraud. It wasn't until my bf contacted his friend who worked for the cash advanced place where he borrowed money from, told him that he owed $58 and odd cents and that was it. She did inform him that the calls were scams and that she too was harassed by" james johnson" as well.
My bf called the guy back and chewed him out and said to them,"do you feel happy that you called a bunch of people and just screwed them over? These people have families and bills and things they need to take care of." The guy replied back,"yeah, I do. And why is it that you would care about people you don't know?" He hung up promptly after on my bf. These people do not care, they just want your money! And if you did/do go through loan sharks, make sure to hang onto all your receipts and documents incase you build a case with the police dept and/or bank!
Take it from a person who works in a fraud dept, ask for name, id# or badge# if they claim to be from the police dept, call back phone#, name and address of the business, email address, and a fax # you've got these people nailed. If the don't comply, don't deal with them (especially if they start to curse and scream at you, as business etiquette you NEVER act hostile or raise your voice at your customers/clients and if your business is legitimate you would be able to provide that information correct am I not?)
Or...for giggles, just pretend to be them! Its a good stress reliever...you're the customer so you're always right.
