Two years ago I signed up for DirectTV satellite service through my phone company. Before signing up I upgraded to a DVR receiver but was never told it would require more than a one yr. contract. All inquiries w/phone co. were by chatting w/phone co. tech and all chats WERE SAVED BY ME to my hard drive. When I cancelled at the one year point, I was charged an Early Disconnect Fee of $150. I have spoken with and submitted my proof to DirectTV as well as a collection agy. It has now gone to another coll. agy. I feel I have done my part and have given them written notice of my intention to not pay as well as to not call me as it disturbs my husband who has dementia.

Do you think this will go to court and if so, do I have a leg to stand on? I feel the error lies with the phone company who (1) made the non-disclosure error and (2) was offically representing DirectTV. Any opinions?

They can't touch your social security money so you are fine there. How much is the debt up to now? Did you ever get in touch with the executive office at direct tv or did you only use there pointless 800 number to explain your case? You may want to consider going to the top, submitting what you have, and just letting them wipe it off the record. If you have the proof you say you do it should be no problem.
