Sued/Judgment

Recently a deputy came to my parents house in VA with 'papers'. I'm assuming I am being sued by collection agency for a credit card I purposefully have not agreed to pay on (verbally or written) for the past 3 years. I live in California right now and have not recieved any mail or messages on the phone about this. All of a sudden I have to call a deputy and possibly fly home to go to court or I am assuming they will have a warrent out for my arrest all over the country??
Please help and any advice on what to say to the deputy when I call him would be much appreciated..

First of all, don't get panicked. I think the collection agency has filed a lawsuit against you for non-repayment of debt. You have been served summons and you need to give a reply to it within 20 days. You'll have to attend the court hearing date also. You won't be arrested all of a sudden. If the CA wins the case, then may get judgment order against you. You can call the deputy and explain your situation to him/her politely. You may inform him/her and you want to resolve the matter out of court. Still it is advisable to give a reply to the summons.

Did you parents not tell the deputies that you do not live there??? If you live in CA, you have NOT been served. They have to serve you where YOU live by the court in the county where you reside.
The current summons....it needs to be returned to the court notifying them that you do not live at that address or in the county and that the service was flawed. You probably need to include a copy of your CA drivers licence and a utility bill showing your california address.
Debts are civil, not criminal. No arrest warrent will be issued.

i currently live in another state and my friend said she recieved a letter i am being sued and i have a court date in july.If I dont live in that state anymore do i still have to show?.and what would happen if i dont show for the hearing?.
