Second law firm

Have a debt. Want to pay, simply have not been able to afford the demands and or have had to stop communications with this people due to the aggressivness. This debt is now more than two years old.
I now have a second firm starting the whole processes again, after about a year of some room to breath. I have not answered the calls, simple due to the fact that I dont have the energy to deal with them or for a lack of description, gun shy and have leaned that, you dont get any where by trying to reason with these collectors, so why talk. BUT IT IN WRITTING is a valid form of communication. I have however, responded to them with a request to verify... Once completed, I will again offer to pay what I can afford.
I have in the past with Discover, the first law firm offerd to pay regular amounts mthly untill paid. But this is fruitless, they will settle for 5K on a 10K debt. However, they want it in two months! In two payments. If I could do that I would be in this finacial disposition.
Never the less here I go, again. Can I assume being that this is the second firm calling me about it this debt is being suffled around/sold? Should I try to offer payments that I can afford.
I was able with my wifes account that I was attached to have the firm representing Discover accept $65.00 a month untill paid off with no interest and no time limit. Just need to pay untill its complete. This was filed in court.
Why would this firm or the past not do this? Now, I am on number two and I cant seem to get any traction or collaboration to get this paid. Will they likley sue me or just continue to sell the debt once I request they stop contacting me regarding this debt, due to the fact that they will not accept my payment structure.
What do I do? They dont want my money.... They want thire money now. Senerio.
Thanks in advance.

Your option is to negotiate a settlement with them. Now, if you want to avoid dealing with them on phone, you may ask them for all communication in writing. I'd suggest that you begin with a debt validation letter .
