problem with John P. Frye
Date: Wed, 03/16/2011 - 11:06
I co-signed for a cc for a Veterinary CC. There is balance due. The woman who's CC this is in.. Died Oct. 1st. How do I find out the true balance since I have no bills. I have contacted Atlantic:confused: Credit and Finance who purchased the account from GE Money Bank. I have asked for documents and they tell me I must get them from JOHN P. Frye firm. When I asked them for them they tell me they only have a balance due... no other information. When I called the Atlantic Credit and Finance group they told me to fax my request in.... Which I will do.... But this sure is feeling like a scam. Unfortunately I paid them the balance of 1000.00 on two my CC as I did not want to get my credit ruined which they said would happen since I have good credit.
Can you advise... or I did I just make the mistake of my life.... I am trying to find out what the true figures are that they claimed are owed. Because she died, my name goes to the top I guess.. but I have never recieved bills.

It's likely you didn't receive bills because they didn't have co
It's likely you didn't receive bills because they didn't have contact information for you, only your name, or if this woman's estate hasn't been settled, that could also be the hold-up.
If you've already paid them, there's not much you can do now. In the future, you should never pay a voice on the phone. Unless the debt can be validated, in writing, you don't pay - and, they can't report it without that validation either. Paying is basically admitting you owe the debt.
