I live in WA state and recieved a summons from a collection agency regarding a medical bill.

I only have 10 days left to respond and all I can figure out is that I need to send something called a "notice to Defend"....

I cant afford an atty and have no idea what to do now. Where can I find a Notice to Defend? Is there some kind of form letter somewhere?

This sucks! All help is GREATLY appreciated!

There are great consumer advocate attorneys at naca.net, the web site for the non-profit org. National Association of Consumer Advocates. I know a few of the Washington state attorneys, and they're great. Go to the site and use the 'find an attorney' function. Not all attorneys charge for helping with these problems. Good luck.

Here is a great website that details the civil court procedure, including all of your possible defenses:
It is for New York and so may vary in minor details with your state.

Google your local civil court for local procedures and any Forms you may need. Don't forget: File A Motion for Discovery.

ALSO, your local county civil court will have referrals to Legal Aid, where you can pay little or nothing for legal representation. That info will be at the court itself, and also on its website. You also may wish to Google any local consumer advocate blogs that may give you some great pointers for your locality.
