Please help with SOL

My husband is military.
In 2006, I got an unsecured loan from HFC/Beneficial. I made payments on it until October 2010. When I got the loan we lived in Washington. We moved to Louisiana in 2009. I went delinquent a year later AFTER we moved to Louisiana.
IF the SOL for Washington applies, I still have 4 years. If the SOL for Louisiana applies, I have a year left on this.
BUUTTTT, it looks like we are moving. Again. To maybe Virginia in December. So would the SOL for Virginia then apply?????
(I am hoping the closer it gets to SOL the smaller amount of money would be accepted for settlement). I owe 11k, am hoping for a settlement of less than 4k (reasonable???).
Sooooo confused about SOL and after 2 days of googling, it hasnt gotten any clearer!!!! And I am afraid to call a lawyer as teh CA who has my loan is also part of some lawyer network. What if I call the wrong one?!?!!!

In general, the statute of limitations for the state in which you currently reside applies. There are exceptions, but that's the general rule.

So if I leave Louisiana with only one year left on SOL and go to Virginia (who I believe has 5 year SOL) then my SOL would be the 5 year one??
