WFNNB issues credit cards, if I recall right. That makes them a first-party collector. however, I can tell you this from my dealings...
Not too long back, WFNNB called and left a message on our answering machine.....for my wife's ex. Not only did he cheat on her, and then walk out on her for the other woman, but it seems that he opened a credit card account and gave OUR phone number to them as his contact info. I asked repeatedly and was told each time that this is the primary listed contact info on the account. When I asked why we had not ever been called before, I was told that it was because the account was only recently delinquent. I promptly provided them with his home and cell phone numbers, although knowing him I am certain he wont answer when he calls. At first I doubted them, until I got calls within the same month from three other creditors--not debt collectors, but creditors--and each one told me the same thing when I asked how they got our number.
If they are looking for someone that you know, at least talk to the person and tell them to get their stuff together and handle their business. If not, then send WFNNB a certified letter informing them that they have been told already that they are looking for someone that they cannot reach at your number, and that any further calls will constitute harassment. Tell them you are prepared to take any appropriate action, including legal action if need be, to put an end to this issue.
