415-545-0073 - Does this number belongs to any collection agency?
Date: Wed, 06/07/2006 - 11:43
Well Im not 100% sure but its like this
My bank account @ BOA(or one of my bank accounts) has been overdraft $1600(the original fee was $2600 but i paid 1k off, and been 1600 for a while now) for about 5-6 months. My account has been closed for sometime now. Ive been getting mail every other week saying to pay up or my name will be given to Chexsystems and my credit will be ruined blah blah blah up to 5 years even when i do pay them off. Although I do have an account at a different bank. Anyway I get a call this morning by someone who said he was from somewhere, some legal thing I think, Im not even sure if it was a collection agency.. I forget the name, anyway he says I owe $1634.43 to Bank Of America and if I would like a last chance at making somekind of payment before he sends my case to an attorney, and I would have to pay for the attorney including my $1600 fee. He says I could pay $270 a month for 6 months, $1200 and end it, or one other solution, I forget. I say fine, I'll do the $270 for 6 months thing. He asks for my routing and account number, I give it to him. Before I do he puts me on hold and I hear music... After I give him the info he makes sure this is the account #'s from Union Bank.. (How did he know it was Union Bank?? this further proves its a scam or maybe not afterall I dont know) I say yes. He tells me a few other thing thats gonna happen and when the deductions will be made. He told me friday will be the first. Then each month $270 will be deducted and I will be clean. Oyea And before I gave him the info, a machine voice said this will be recorded for ....purposes...(I know they cant ask that kinda info without that) anyway he says he's gonna transfer me to a superviser to confirm everything. Im transfered and he asks if I am ..... I say yes.. Then I lose connection. The same number calls me back 3 minutes later but we lose connection again.. The first number says Maryland Call with a number on my caller ID.. The second says Private manager but has a number also. I live in California. So I dont know if this a solid scam, or if this is legit. I called each of the numbers back and get rings then a busy signal. Making me believe this is easily a scam. Now what I need to know if I have an account overdrafted will someone ACTUALLY call to give me a LAST CHANCE to make an effort to pay the bank back?? And if so, how can I stop them from writing a check or taking money out my account before its too late? This happened today. Do I tell my bank to inform me before money is takin out my account or what?
Thank you

You missed an important thing. Their is no paperwork of this agreement done. If there is a need to dispute anything sometime later, you will fall short of proof. Never make any agreement until you have it in writing. Verbal communication has no legal basis.
I am not sure if this company has your account details, but you must inform your bank and make them aware about the situation. They might put a stop payment against them. If it is a collection agency, they are bound by the federal laws to validate the debt in writing. Send a letter and ask for the details in writing. You need to know for sure if they are authorized for this collection and review the calculations thoroughly. Then you need to move from that point.
It will be better to get in touch with BOA and inquire about this account. They must have the info if the account is still with them. If they have sold it off, they should have the name of the CA authorized for collections.
Try to pay off this account at the earliest. It might be hurting your credit ratings and can be reported in the Chexsystem. You might have problems later while opening new accounts with other banks. They will verify your past records from the Chexsystem as well as from your credit file.

It does sound strange considering the runaround you seem to be getting. I would definitely notify your bank who can probably enlighten you on what is happening.
Scam!
Hi, I read the above entry because I've also been getting calls from a 415-545-0073 right after my MBNA card is over due?? When I've answered they don't say anything and then when I call back there is a message stating "I've reached a line that has been disconnected?" I also received calls from an 877 on my other phone line when my AMEX card was over due and the samething. I think it's someone who has access to accounts and when they are overdue or someone is overdraft they call to scam money off you?

Your bank is identified by the routing number. I have paid credit card bills by phone this way. Every time I have given the routing number, they tell me the name of the bank. I would think if you owed a big bank like Bank of America $1600 it would be reasonable to assume that at some point they would try to collect it from you. You can do a stop payment of an auto draft at your bank (most charge a fee). But I personally would try to contact them to work out different arrangements before taking this step.

The surest and safest way to find out if the bank has sent your account to collections is to call them.
I received a call from 415-545-0073 this morning
I didn't answer as I have larangitis and cannot talk at this time - interesting enough - they did not leave a voicemail - most legit businesses will leave a voicemail - none of my credit cards are overdue and none of my credit is out of wack - what would this phone # want with me - reading what these other readers have written - it sounds like a money thing

Guest,
Know the name of the company calling you from the number. You must identify the real purpose before making any agreement with them. If they are collecting for some of your past debt, proper details must be given in writing. There are many companies out there who scam people on the basis of insufficient information. Know your legal rights if a debt collector is making the calls.

This number called me and I got the "press 1 to hear is calling you" message. It was Dell calling me back. I believe Dell's CS is in India and they route their phone numbers through that (415) number.

When you give your routing number to someone they can easily find the name of your bank if it is in the system. It's not a scam.. it's technology.
You were most likely called first on a dialer which usualy has a seperate # from the company number. I don't know why this is so but if I were to speculate I would say it's on a completely different phone system.

Totally correct - based on your routing number, their computer could verify your bank.
I think it all goes back to getting proof of the debt and the company's right to collect in writing first. Then, like Justme said, get the payment agreement in writing. Until then - give them no bank account information.
And on a personal note, I do my best to NEVER give out my bank account numbers to collection agencies. Any time I make a payment to a CA, I get a money order. 46 cents at Walmart, BABY! For the fact that a money order is as good as cash and never bounces is one plus. The fact that the CA gets no personal financial information of mine is the bigger benefit.

FYI,
(415) is the area code for San Francisco. And if it was the Dell Call Center, it would probably be in Silicon Valley, which is near San Jose, whose AC is 408.
It's an interesting thought, however....

While still in bed this morning we received a phone call from our family doctor at Kaiser who left a message, which we could hear & 800 number for us to return the call. When I checked the phone number, hoping to have a 'direct number' instead of the 800 number, there was 415/545-0073 on CALLER ID saying "PRIVACY MANAGER". I wondered why Kaiser in Southern California would route their call through San Francisco, so I GOOGLED the number and found this site. Seems Kaiser uses this 'service' so that you don't see their direct or private lines.
I read most of the messages here and many said it was Dell Computers, or banks calling for late payments etc. I believe this number is used by many companies or business who do not want calls returned to them directly or maybe this service only allows out going calls to be covered by 'PRIVACY MANAGER'. They may even be sales calls where they wouldn't leave a message but will surely call you again and again.
Like I said, we were home and did hear the message and knew it was our doctor calling from this 415/545-0073 number that appeared on CALLER ID.
I will be alert on this number. Thanks for posting it.

guest,
Let me reiterate, Kaiser Permanente doctors use this "PRIVACY MANAGER" service to call and have their number 'blocked' thus only showing 415/545-0073 on CALLER ID. I just wanted others to know its not just collection agencies, Dell Computer CS, banks, etc.
This morning we got a call and I checked the CALLER ID and saw: 415/545-0073 it said ATT. While the answer machine was playing our out going message, I could hear the incoming call saying: PRESS 1 TO HEAR THE MESSAGE, but once the 'system' realized it was an answering machine it was disconnected. Within 15 seconds the phone rang again showing: 415/545-0009 and CALLER ID registered TAKE A MESSAGE, and after our answer machine picked up, it was once again, Kaiser calling to leave a message.
This confirms my belief that this 415/545-0073 is indeed a PRIVACY MANAGER and routes calls from their customers, i.e., banks, corporations, doctors etc so that numbers are not traceable directly back to them, for what ever reason. I do know Kaiser Permanente only wants you to call their 800 numbers to follow that 'red tape' line back to the doctor. Like I said before, we were home to hear the calls come in and watched CALLER ID as it happened.
Giving this more thought, if anyone can subscribe to this 'PRIVACY MANAGER' service then beware that some scams might come through this way, insuring that their numbers are not traceable also.
I believe that both ethical and unethical calls can be made using this 415/545-0073 PRIVACY MANAGER number so beware. If you happen to answer the phone & they try to sell you something, IMMEDIATELY say, "I'm not interested".......and HANG UP before they have a chance to say another word. Its your phone they are the intruders.
Hope I cleared that up for you 'guest'
I too used "Guest" which is confusing
Privacy Manager
Hey everyone.
I live in an area with phone coverage provided by Bell South. When I signed up for the service, part of the package was an item called PRIVACY DIRECTOR.
If someone calls my phone using a credit card/phonecard or a blocked number, this service takes over. The caller is told that this phone number does not accept calls from cards or private blocked numbers but that they may leave a message.
If I answer the phone when the caller ID shows PRIVACY DIRECTOR, a recording says "Privacy Director". The calling party then has a chance to state their name, company, why they are calling, etc.. I hear this and the recording gives me 2 options - press 1 to answer, press 2 to ignore. If I press 1, I am connected to the caller. If I press 2, the recording tells me to please hang up. The caller is then directed to leave a message. The caller does not know if I am home or out.
The calling number does not show up on caller ID, only the PRIVACY DIRECTOR number (a local number). Let me tell you, even though my number is registered with the Do Not Call Registry, the sales calls and political calls and whatnot still come through. And most of these callers do NOT leave a message.
This is how DELL calls, I presume they think they fool us into not knowing the calls are coming from the Philippines.
Could this be something similar ?

Hi Guest:
I can help you with this as I am a KP employee in Northern California. May I suggest going to the website and signing up for the email your MD function? If you register with our site here, PM me and I can give you the address. And although I can't speak for Southern California, I do know that in Northern California that you are correct--they do want all calls going through the call center, which is a pain.
I would suggest asking your doc for his/her direct extension if they are willing to give it the next time you see them. Nine times out of ten, it's voicemail, but it's a start! Feel free to pm me with questions if you register.

Jeff's wife,
We just recently got the CALLER ID on our phone because of all these 'hang up' calls. PRIVACY DIRECTOR will not show the number if the calling party does not ok their number to be shown, thus the call is incomplete. I have my own answering machine here so I can hear the callers before I pick up.
We are also on the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY but doesn't stop all 'nuisance' calls. I believe that was to stop telemarketer's using some type of speed dialing. When they enter the phone number manually that call will get through, just as any other call.
If Dell is outsourcing then calls coming from the Philippines might be routed through the PRIVACY MANAGER number 415/545-0073. If Dell leaves a message I'm sure they will give you either an 800 number or a local number.
My question is why is Dell calling? Advertising or collecting?
Thanks for your input "kscornell". This call from the Kaiser doctor was a one shot deal, not our primary care doctor, I was just hoping for a direct number. When this call happened, it helped me piece this 'mystery' together about this 415/545-0073 number.
We don't have any problems with any of our credit cards so I know its not a collection agency calling from that number & I don't have a Dell computer.
Last night we got a call from 903/000-000 and CALLER ID said TEXAS CALL. Our answer machine picked it up and it was a political recorded message since elections are around the corner.
We got CALLER ID to find out why we got so many hang up calls and who was calling. Some are from the Sheriff's Department asking for donations. I answered once and told them "NO" nicely, but they keep calling. Their number appeared on CALLER ID and I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. CALLER ID has eliminated some of the 'mystery' of these hang up calls.

Greets-
I have gotten at least 5 calls (Privacy Manager) from this number and am fairly sure its a collection agency. Mostly calling at like 0400 AM Pacific time so its annoying.
Thing is I have no outstanding debts I am aware of.
My FICO score is near 800.
I suppose I will answer the call next time and update everyone.
Anyway, isn't there some sort of restrictions on when these people can phone you ?
potential scam
I would call the bank to put a freeze on this account immediately. Giving bank info (esp. a routing number) to ANY caller / company that you do not have an existing, solid lasting relationship with is EXTREMELY risky. The fact that there was no paperwork or previous relationship sets off red flags for me. They could easily withdraw money & vanish leaving you with no recourse.
UNCLAIMED MONEY
On a different note, anyone living in California can check this site for unclaimed money, http://www.sco.ca.gov/col/ucp/ & click on the little pink piggy bank.
Its FREE and if you find money owed you, just fill out the forms and mail them to the state for your refund. Make sure you check different ways you've signed your name i.e. Joe, Joseph or Mike, Michael and even check maiden names. Best to just put in your last name and go through that list first as it lists all addresses too.
Anyone getting a letter from an 'attorney' stating for $25 they will give you information on money due you is probably getting it from this site.
You can Google "Unclaimed Property" and this government site is the fourth one down.
Its FREE and we've found our names here and claimed our money.
GOOD LUCK!

It seems everybody is outsourcing their calls. I get calls on my caller id that say they are coming from Ontario, Canada and they are my children's school district's computerized calls to let me know of district info. like state wide testing, or to let me know report cards will be coming home. We get out of state calls that are computerized reminding us of scheduled doctors' appointments as well. And we are in OH.
REGARDS PHONE CALL FROM COLLECTION AGENCIES.
My point is, if they don't send me any legal form of writing. I will not give out any personal information.
They ask you to verify your personal info all the time. Who knows they are scam people or not. I ask them the same question. How do i know to wich person or agency i am talking to, there are no identyfication possible on the phone to confirm you talking to the right agency or person.
Also some of them are getting pretty nasty also. I let them know, before i answer the phonecall, that this call is recorded for legal matter and you will see how nice they get or hang up on you.
I would do nothing per phonecall from this peoples or agencies, since you don't get any proof of making arrangements with them!

privacy manager calls
When you see this number it's not the number of the person who called you. What this means is if you have caller ID with privacy manager a blocked caller called you, rather than unblocking their number (pressing 0) they pressed 2 and said their name or the company they represent.
If you're at home when they call you will hear options to take the call, refuse the call, send to voicemail or machine, play them an automatic sales rejection do not call me again message.
This is not your callers number, it's part of the privacy manager service if you're in Northern CA.

when you get these types of calls. tell them that the call is being recorded. and never give pout bank routing info. once you do that they can and usually will take money from your acct. afterall you gave them permission.checksytem as well as any other collector can be sued for incorrect info reported on your credit report.if you owe the bank, pay them only.
another comment: most of those calls from numbers you listed are agencies. nvr call them back; because you verify that they have a good number, then you go into a pool of called numbers.
fyi: all 800 numbers have a service attached called ANI(ANONYMOUS NUMBER IDENTIFICATION.) SO, IF YOU HAVE A BLOCKED NUMBER, GUESS WHAT? ITS REVEALED. DO NOT EVER CALL ANY 800 NUMBER.. IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO CALL A COLLECTION AGENVCY, USE A CALLING CARD AND PREFERABLY A PAY PHONE.
