What do you do if you receive a collection notice under your maiden name?

Should you continue to do business under you maiden name or should you inform the collection agency that you last name has changed?

Have you looked at your credit report recently? Chances are, both of your married names are on there, and a lendor (or whoever) usually finds these. Thats why sometimes you'll find stuff out of the blue. You'll apply for a credit card at your new address, or check your own credit. YOu'll start getting things from the past under your old name, but because certain credit cards you've had, or bank accounts that have had both names...will put both names on your credit report.

The signing of your name is up in the air. I would think it would be alright to do either.

Do you plan on fighting this debt, or paying it off?

Well I'll pay it if they can show me that I really owe them the money but honestly I don't thik I ever signed a contract with the company(Ballys). I guess if was from back in 1996 so the SOL has run out and the negitave mark on my credit dropped last November. So I guess I could just tell them to drop dead. If they can show me proof I'll be will to talk but the company is Asset Acceptance and all the do it scream on the phone, so all I can do is dispute it.

I just want to make sure that I am not breaking any laws by signing my maiden name.
