What type of information is available in a credit report?


Your credit report is a prestigious financial document which contains personal information about you. It thus becomes important to know your legal consumer rights. The FCRA Act restricts anyone to view your credit file unless there is a legitimate cause.

Following information is available in your credit report:


  • Your identifying information

  • Credit information (applications for credit cards, payment history, etc)

  • Your employment/salary information

  • Late payments reported by utility companies, hospitals, landlords and others

  • Overdrawn accounts reported by banks

  • Public record information

  • Debts being collected by collection agencies

  • Late credit card, auto loan, mortgage payments reported by banks

  • Delinquent child support payments

Information That Is Not Included:

  • Your race

  • Your religion

  • Your driving record

  • Your current health or medical history

  • Your political preference

  • Debts that are more than 7 years old

  • Notice of bankruptcy (Chapter 11) that is more than 10 years old

  • Your criminal record

Hello, I am looking to rent an appartment but most do credit checks, well I found some that dont, so does that mean they cant see my past rental history?
