I IRecently I noticed a collections update on my credit report. After doing some research, this is definitley my debt and would like to pay it off in full. Apparently, the company had been mailing me letters, but after moving to another state and getting a new phone number, I was unaware of this issure. Is there anyway to remove this from my credit report once it is paid? Thanks in advance!

Hi--

Here's the thing--many debt collectors will not remove it once it is paid. Some will even tell you that they will, but then they dont do it. The one and only way I would ever recommend that you go about this is to send them a letter by certified mail, return receipt requested. In this letter, I would offer to pay the amount if they are willing to remove the debt from all of your credit reports. Do NOT put a phone number on this letter--put your mailing address. What you are looking for is for this debt collector to put it in writing that they agree to remove it from your credit reports. Do NOT pay them without a letter from them stating that they agree to remove the entry from your credit reports.

however, before you send that first letter, you should verify that the debt collector really has the legal right to collect the debt, and that the amount they claim you owe is legitimate.
