I have begun the initial process of repairing mine and my hubby's credit. I have disputed everything! Is it true that if I just keep disputing unwanted items, that they would just automatically assume I am telling the truth and fix the problems?

Just heard that somewhere and wondered if anyone had any previous experience with this.

If you dispute something on your credit report, the credit reporting agency (ie Experian, TransUnion, Equifax) will send a notice to whoever your disputing that they have 30 days to basically prove that you owe them money and that what they reported is correct. If they cannot do that or do not report back in time, the disputed item will be removed from your credit report. It can take a while for your score and report to reflect this. I usually tell people to wait about 3 months or so to see any improvement. You should always get a copy of your credit report at least once a year to see what's on there. And, even if you dispute something and it's removed, you need to stay on top of things to see if they put it back on after a while. When they think nobody's looking. I hope this helps. :)

Swedishgirl is right. The credit bureau will verify your dispute with the data furnisher. They will inform the company that you don't agree with their reporting in your credit. The company will provide all the info related with the account and send you the details. In case, the company does not verify the item, the bureau will think that your dispute is correct and remove their incorrect reporting. You will get the updated copy within 30 days after the item is removed. In some cases, the bureau sends a general letter to the consumer saying that the item was verified with the data furnisher and found correct. You have the rights to ask the bureaus for the results of investigation in case you still feel the need to contest the item.

You need to dispute an entry with each of the credit reporting agencies. It is concievable that a creditor could verify a dispute with one or two of the CRAs, but fail to do so with the other(s). Should a disputed entry not be verified in the requisite timeline (which I believe is 30 days), then the CRA must remove the entry. I also believe that the entry could re-appear if verified at a later point in time.

Basic explaination of a credit bureau policies:
1. All data reported is furnished by data furnisher(original creditor, collector).
2. Not all data furnisher report to all bureaus which makes it very important to view all three.
3. When you start a dispute with a bureau, you need to be very specific(not mine is usually a bad dispute).
a. Here is explaination why not mine is bad.
1. All data furnishers are tied to bureaus with a data cpu system(eoscar).
2. When they receive a not mine, all data furnisher has to look up is name and address to verify account.
3. Some credit bureaus see not mine dispute as a possible fraud alert and could lock your account down based on that giving you more heartache.
4. If account is truly not yours,do id theft dispute.

3. Take apart account when disputing(acct#,amount,status,date opened,closed,etc.)
4. The more specific you are,the better as it forces data furnisher and bureau to do a complete investigation.
5. For multiple negative item disputes,a written dispute to bureaus certified is good.
6.Always remember that under Facta provision of Fcra, you are able to dispute directly with data furnisher as well as bureaus.

Under Fcra, account needs to be verified, changed,or deleted after investigation.
Warning Opinion folows: I would never dispute positive reporting accounts as they have a habit of getting data furnisher upset and deletion from bureau.Lates and other minor disputes with positive accounts are better handled thru data furnisher directly.
