Another question about opening a CC...I am in the chexsystems database for about another year from past account activity.  As a result, my only bank accounts are a savings account through a credit union, and then I have Greendot, a prepaid Visa that serves as like a checking account (i use it's routing information to pay student loan and other bills).  This is where my paychecks are direct deposited to.  Would any of this help me or hurt me in the area of credit card approval?  Do balances matter?  If so I could transfer more in to my savings account

For getting an unsecured credit card, you need to have a credit score of 700 and above and for that you need first build up a good credit history. Now, since you do not have a credit history, you can go for secured credit cards and build up a good credit profile with the card. Once you build up a good credit score, you can apply for unsecured cards.

Having issues with ChexSystems will not keep you from getting credit cards.?? Reports in their database will not impact your credit score.?? They will, however, severly restrict your ability to open a checking account.
NCRA has had tremendous success in having ChexSystems entries deleted from members' accounts, and we also have a free list of 100s of financial institutions around the country, which do not pull ChexSystems or will give an account, in certain situations, even if you are listed on Chex.
