Wow, I never knew such a place existed on the web! I've been putting off getting my debt under control until I was out of school... Well, the time has come, I'll be graduating in less than 2 yrs and I'm getting married next January, so now it's finally time to face my mistakes and get this taken care of! Here's my situation: I have 12 accounts in charge-off status, 2 are credit cards, the others are medical bills from 6 years ago. I don't even know where to start! Do I contact the people I originally owed the money to, or should I contact the collection agency? What's the best 1st step? My future husband and I want to buy a house within our 1st year of marriage, and his credit is nearly spotless, and I don't want my bad credit to ruin our chances at a good future together. Help!!!

Okay, I printed the other two, and they all say exactly the same thing for each account. Now what should I do? Should I start calling the collection agencies, or should I try to find phone numbers and/or address for the original creditors? What do I ask for? What information do I need from them? I don't want to just pay them money without some sort of receipt or verification that I've paid them and that they will update the account on my credit report. Thanks for everyone's help!
