So I'm another RJM aquisition story....

Here's the basic facts:

I'm in Texas.
In december of 2007 I got a letter from RJM for a 147.xx debt from a bank (a previous bank of mine tha I had closed an account on) from 2005. I called them (ooops) and I asked what it was for and they couldn't tell me. I didn't know what they were talking about. I told them to send me a letter detailing the charge since I don't make it a habit of just sending money to strangers that I don't know on the phone. They sent me the EXACT same letter with no other detail other than "Hey we are someone you don't know and we want you to pay us".

Calls to my previous bank said nothing but that I had an unresolved debt that was sold off. I got frustrated and left it alone since the bank basically told me it wasn't their problem.

Then the phone calls started. I only have one phone (cell) and I used it for business too. I repeatedly told them I didn't have knowledge of the debt and I am disputing t. One day I was annoyed with it and said, "Isn't there some rule that you can't call me at work!? This is the phone I use for business!!". They stopped calling.

I moved a year or later and got another couple of letters from them offering a free blender or some other crap. I just trashed them at this point since I didn't know what else to do (didn't know you guys :) ).

Fast forward to 2009...
Checked my credit score last week (experian). I see they put a negative complaint. I go check my score and it's 830 (I'm proud of this!) even with them on there.

I entered a dispute with experian and got two day turn around that basically said "yep, this is staying". Great.

==========================================
So now what?

My credit report says "This account is scheduled to continue on record until Jul 2012".

I am in school on loans for living until May of 2012. My car is paid off. I don't have an income to buy a house. I have a high credit score right now.

Is this worth bothering with? I'd really like to tell these vulture to get screwed for doing such a shady job about whatever it is they are doing.

I think any blip, no matter how high your credit rating, is worth bothering with. Send a validation letter to the original creditor to start with. See what you get. If you know for a fact this is incorrect, continue to dispute with experian. Also, make sure you check all of your credit reports to see if it's noted there also.
