Approved for an FHA Loan but now...

...I just received a letter from AFNI saying they are trying to collect a debt from a Verizon bill that HAD to have been at least 6 years ago. I'm not even sure if its real or not but anyways...
I was approved for an FHA loan last week. I also received this letter from AFNI last week. As far as I know, my credit score was just above (about 10 points over) what mortgage brokers look for to assist in approving a loan.
I'm still in the process of looking for a house to buy, but am really concerned that this thing from AFNI will adversely affect my score and I spend all my time trying to find a home thinking that I'm approved and then all of a sudden, when I find a home, my credit gets run again and then, boom, there's this thing from AFNI on there now dropping me below the score the banks are looking for.
I've already discussed my credit (but not this issue with AFNI) with the lender and he says that based on the information he has, that there shouldn't be a problem. However, he also advised that I should go and check my credit reports as well as it might count as an credit inquiry and lower my score. The only way I can find out is if I do check my credit, see if this AFNI thing is on there, and my score is still above what the bank is looking for, I should be fine. However, if its not, then I have an extremely short period of time to take care of this so it won't affect me buying a home. My wife (and me for that matter) would be extremely disappointed if we couldn't buy a house because of this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think that would be the right place to begin with.
