Sorry this is long!

Hi- I'm new here. I found this forum because I had gotten a call from AIS services lastnight. I don't know what they are trying to collect from me & so I was googling & it lead me here.

Here is some background info on me- At 18yr I took out some credit cards, can't remember how many or for how much. I went on crazy shopping sprees & never paid them back. I also have not had any health insurance for the last 20 years & anytime I get sick I end up at the E.R. & I can't afford to pay all of those bills off. I also have school loans out.

I have the following credit cards-
*old navy-paid in full-never use it- left it open
*pearl card-pay every month on time-it's not a normal credit card, I'm paying off a debt & they add a credit limit to it. I have never used it as a credit card.
*I had a tribute card, but I got sick of those sob's screwing me over, so I paid off the remaning balance in full. Guess what?! They some how managed to put some negative on my credit report AFTER I paid them in full! Ugh!

I also have been paying CBCS collections everymonth for a few years now. They took a few of the debts & put them all on 1 bill. I pay them using automatic debit & I use to get payment reminders in the mail. I haven't received a payment reminder in 2 years, but they still take the money out.

I am now 30yrs old wanting to get married, but I do not want my bad credit to ruin my future wife's good credit. I also do not want to deal with creditors calling me all the time. I would like to get rid of this baggage once & for all. My states sol is 4 years. Everything has been well over that time except for that darn Tribute card, they screwed me over last year by adding that negative.

I could really use any advice on any of this stuff. Thank you!

If everything on your report is accurate there is nothing you can do until it is 7 years old.

Not sure what the point of the SOL is unless nothing was done during that time to attempt to collect. If they have continually been trying to collect it's active.

For the collections company call them and get a statement going back to day one. Make sure they are reporting that you've been making your payments.

Repairing is a subjective word.
From their perspective, the "baggage" you are dragging was self-inflicted, and the credit you received was money out of their pocket. They are enttled to report delinquencies and continue to charge interest on money still not paid to them. Repair to them means paying what you owe.
From your perspective, repair most likely means elimination of the record of your prior derogs. The FCRA provides means to do that, but essentially only for items that were inaccurate. For accurate derogs and delinquencies, the FCRA provides some relief by limiting the time that the old negatives can stay on your credit report.
The FCRA is a balance of consumer and creditor perspective.
To delte earlier requires GW or PFD acceptance at the discretion of the creditor.
