Shows some reports as bad debt charge off on others as paid

I have a charge off for $170 from Amercian General, I called a 800 number because it showed on some reports as bad debt charge off on others as paid. They said they would mark as paid across the board.
I asked how I could get info on why they showed a charge of and paid in full on the same day. I thought that was curious????
SHe said if local office had the file then they could tell me if not then she didn't think anyone could tell me...
If they do not have the file anymore..is there a good chance if getting this totally removed with a dispuet letter????

Send a debt verification letter to original creditor asking them
Send a debt verification letter to original creditor asking them to furnish you with the current status of the debt and also asking them how it is being reported to the bureaus.Send the letter certified return receipt.
