dealing/negotiating with collection agencies

I have seen repeatedly stated here to get in writing an agreement to remove from credit report upon payment before paying any collection agency. If I do that and pay and they still do not remove it, what do/can I do. I have several collections on my report that I am fully capable of paying but I would only do it if it'd help my credit score by being removed. I am going try to get a home loan, but I don't wanna waste 5000 dollars paying these guys off when I could use the money for a down. However, if I can get those removed from my report, I might save that much in interest by having a better score. Any advice?

You are referring to a pay for delete settlement letter. You state what you desire without acknowledging the debt.Once the agency has agreed in writing by signature, you pay them.If they agree in writing and do not delete, they have broken a written contract and are open to civil lawsuit for the breach. You can send a signed copy of this to the credit bureaus too as additional evidence.

Give it a try, send letters stating that you are fully willing to settle if they make this agreement in writing. Cajun is right, if they then break the deal, they are open to being sued.
