On Tuesday, I got a call from Capital One saying they were doing a security check and wanted to confirm things with me. I found this odd and told them no I'm not confirming my credit card details with someone over the phone!

Do you think this was a scam call or have been grumpy at capital one?

Never give out personal information and/or financial information to someone who calls you like that. If they were truly honest and who they say they would have sent you a letter.

Being called and asked for information is often done by scammers. The FBI, FTC and your bank or financial institution among others will tell you the same thing. If you get an email online asking you for information you can make a report to the agency is purported it to be from as well as the FBI. The FBI encourages people to advise them whenever they get suspicious requests. If it isn't anything suspicious no one will fault you for being cautious.

If it was fraud protection or you think it may be then ask for a number to call them back so you can be sure who you are talking to. Or you can access your account information online and if there has been unusual activity on your account you would be able to see evidence of it there. Even information which you think would not compromise your privacy can be used to get other information from other sources so don't give out anything. They could be trying to get information which they could use to convince someone that they are you so they can access your information.

You did the right thing to respond as you did. Don't be intimidated or bullied by anyone. A large part of our defenses with bill collectors and so forth is to refuse to be intimidated. As you did, we should stand up for ourselves because they certainly are looking after their interest without regard to whats good for you.

they can say they are calling from the cc company but we all know better than that. All they want is to screw with you with thinking you did something wrong. What if you didn't make those purchases and someone got your information and was using it to buy stuff. I have had that happen to me through emails. the first thing i would do is ask for their number as they might not even be the bank.

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU ANSWER YOUR PHONE CAUSE THERE ARE ALOT OF SCAMMERS OUT THERE WHO WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMEONE'S MONEY

Hi guys,

Never share your credit card or banking details with someone including credit card or banking service providers representative. If you sharing you financial information with anyone there fraud chances increasing.

As you say you got call & they inquired about your credit card information, In my opinion this call will be scam or made by fraud peoples. So don't share you information with some one. Be secure.

Thanks.
