I paid on a car for 4 years (always on time). Long story short, when ex hubby left I could no longer afford the car payment which increased about every 6 months. (No clue why it kept increasing, Friendly Finance out of Maryland) Anyway, voluntarily gave up the car in February 2010. The car sat, literally, until October 2010. No tags, no insurance, waiting to be repo'd. FF kept calling me at work. No joke 5 to 6 times a day. Not just me but all of my co-workers. This one guy actually told one of my co-workers that he was the "plumber" and it was an emergency. On November 23rd they got a judgment against me for $13,817.39. I bought the darn car for $13,99.72. Of course I never received notice of this until I received a Garnishment Summons in the mail. I am a single mom of two kids, one is special needs. I did not even get the chance to fight this one! However I did check with the court today and it was allegedly posted on my door. If this garnishment starts I will loose my home. Seriously, any assistance with this will be truly appreciated!

If a judgment has been issued against you, then you have nothing to do. You can make a written request to the court with a claim of exemption. The court may vacate the garnishment after considering your financial condition. You can also consult with an experienced lawyer regarding this issue.
