what does it mean when an account is charged off and is that something that still needs to be paid? In other words does it help your credit to pay off a charged off account? I was told that it would not help your credit score. Also what is a Gov. Over Payment?

If something is listed as "charged off" on your credit report the company can still sell the debt to another CA to collect on it. I think if you payoff anything negative on your credit report can only improve your scores. But I could be wrong in the case of a charge off, but I do know that charge offs can be sold.
