Thanks to the help of Volleyballmom, I am on my way to getting my HORRIBLE pdl situation taken care of..

Now...

I'm on my way to cleaning up my credit report, but I have few questions first. *I reside in IL* Ok, so the whole 7 year rule of it staying on your credit report ~ is it 7 years from the DATE OPEN or DATE CLOSED?? If it's 7 years from the date open then there are quite a few blemishes..

If you have an account that has been open for 7 years and it includes late payments, BUT it's paid off, can I dispute that?

Thank you for all your help!!! :P

I think the 7 years starts from the date of the late payment... so say u got the card in Jan of 07 but made timely payments until August of 07 this will stay on ur report until August of 2014. Now this is the way i understand it... So correct me if i'm wrong anyone!
Also u can dispute anything on ur credit report and a lot of times if it has been paid off in full the CA's won't even bother responding to the bureau so it's taken off!
Good Luck on ur journey!

I am planning on disputig the inaccurate items. My qustion ~ is it best to send to the letter to the Credit Bureaus or the creditor/collection agency?

I would personally send it to the credit bureau first... also, u can get a copy of ur credit report online and also dispute it there... U get one free view per year but i pay 15 bux a month to have true credit monitor my reports so any time anything changes they immediately notify me via email. It's worked out really good for me so far!
Much luck again,
Ang

How long has it been closed? I know most only report to bureau's once a month so if it's recent then they may not have had time to show it as closed yet... If it's been a while then i have NO clue! ha ha
I'm giving u advice here as best i know but to be honest sometimes the credit reports confuse the heck outta me also!
Good Luck,
Ang

Ok first the sol for reporting is controlled by federal law, specifically the fair credit reporting act. If an account is positive I would not dispute it with the credit bureau because of the chance of losing it for good. For positive accounts with inaccurate information, send a letter to the original creditor asking them to report the account properly. In your letter explain why it is reporting wrong.Sol for credit reports always goes from date of first delinquency for negative accounts.
