Credit Report - debts that will meet the sol

A friend asked me a some questions about her credit report and cleaning it up but I do not have the right answer so I thought I post it here.
She has a couple of debts that will soon fall of her credit report (charge off, collections, medical etc.) and she wants to pay some of them off now since she has the money to do so but wants to know how does that affect her report.
Does she pay the ones that she can now?
Or does she not pay them and they fall off her report since they are scheduled to sometime this year.
I think its a great idea to pay some of them off but I am no expert on this stuff when I myself am trying to get myself out of debt and clean up my credit.
Any insight you can provide would be helpful...

If your friend can afford to pay the debt in entirety then pleas
If your friend can afford to pay the debt in entirety then please tell her to do it but please make it sure that you get a written agreement from the collection agency.
