If an account is already closed and I have been paying it for years, will it affect my credit if I settle it? Can I ask them to delete it off the credit report totally if I settle it?

You can offer a settlement on the condition that the creditor/collector provide something in writing FIRST to state that they agree to delete the account from your credit reports with all three bureaus upon receipt of settlement payment.
If you settle and do not request account to be deleted, most likely, bureaus will show the account as 'settled after account closed' or something along those lines.
