Can you still work with collection agencies and offer to pay a debt in full in return for them deleting it from your credit report? I've been reading about this option and have found some articles that state it's not as easy as it sounds because the collection agencies usually refuse.

PFDs don't work these days. Its no difficult, its right next to impossible to obtain a PFD simply because there is no incentive in the process for the collectors. Moreover, it kind of goes against the whole spirit of credit reporting and scoring.

What you have heard is correct. Most of the collectors refuse to delete the items from the credit report in return of full payment. They can do so only on goodwill. But they are not bound to do it.
