Collection Agency Licensing

If a collection agency is not licensed to collect in the state where I now live (but may have been licensed in the state where the debt was incurred and from which I moved), can they still try to collect from me? If not, are they obligated to remove the collection from my credit report?

If your state requires the collection agency to be licensed then
If your state requires the collection agency to be licensed then it would be illegal for them to continue with their collection activities without obtaining one. You can send them a Cease and desist letter asking them to stop all collection activities on the account.
