Hi all I am glad I found this forum. About 5 years ago when I was working at another job hsbc offered retail accounts for company I was working at. I only used this account once, and is has been at 0 for almost 4 years.

Today while applying for a car loan, the man ask me about HSBC credit card I had. I told him that that was for my old job and hasn't been used for many years and that I ask HSBC to close it and they said they did.

He informed that it is still active and open. I called HSBC the lady quite frankly told me that they would not close the account.

It is my account under my name, and because it is still active it does effect my credit due to the fact that it is revolving unsecure credit, even if it is at 0.

I want this account closed it is my right as consumer to have this account closed any ideas on how to approach this matter?

Hi

Cajun is right if this account is in good standing then you should not close it. It will help your credit history.

There is a myth that closing accounts that are bad will help in erasing the bad mark. No, its not correct. the accounts that are closed stay on your report till ten long years. Thereby it is important to manage the accounts properly.

Is the account negatively reported on your credit copy? Chances are that what you know about this account is actually not reflected on your credit file. Your credit scores are hurt because of inaccurate negative entry. That's the only reason of your being worried about this item and you should get it removed immediately.

They raised my interest rate to 19% I have been on hold for 2 hoours trying to close my credit card as a result. Once I told them I wanted it closed they put me on eternal hold. I will never do business with HSBC again.
